American Exceptionalism in The Balance

The United States is the most exceptional country on the face of the earth. However, our exceptional nature has nothing to do with who we are economically, racially or culturally. Our exceptional nature is the result of the faith our founders and subsequent generations found through Jesus Christ. You may not agree with such talk but it is an undeniable fact of our history. Many of our country's first leaders were bold to assert the connection between faith and our nation's well-being. John Jay, the first chief justice of the supreme court once stated, “Providence has given our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty, as well as privilege and interest, of a Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.” The faith, or lack of faith, of our leadership matters a great deal.

Only a people who have lost faith can be so arrogant and self-centered to attempt the separation of faith from the political arena. Certainly the state should stay out of the church but it is more than obvious our founders never intended the church to stay out of the state. We need the church, her doctrines, morality and principled followers in places of leadership if we are to continue to enjoy the exceptional blessings our country has enjoyed in the past.

"Jesus, send us leaders who are followers of Christ. Open the eyes of our nation to Your will and make us willing to follow You. May our nation experience revival. In Jesus name, Amen."
