"In bitterness of soul Hannah wept much and prayed to the Lord." -- 1 Samuel 1:10
Are you holding onto a dream and it seems like it will never come true? Is it a dream of a family, spouse or some new job opportunity? Have you had dreams which you have let die and walked away from because they seemed out of reach or were taking too long to realize? What should we do when it seems the odds are against those things we long for the most?
Hannah was a woman with a deep longing to have children yet year after year her dream for a family went unfulfilled. In the midst of her pain she continued to love and serve God faithfully. We never see a time when Hannah lost hope or in any way let her dream die. She believed her desire for a family was from God and depended upon Him to make the dream a reality. If her dream really was from God He would come through for her!
Our dreams should always be prayed over and submitted to God. Scripture teaches, when we submit our heart and plans to God He writes the desires He has for our life on our heart (Psalm 37:4). This means we won't be called to be a missionary in Africa unless God first writes the desire to be so on our heart! God takes the heart submitted to Him and creates new desires within it. Once we know our desires are from Him we can depend upon His ability to make the dreams He has given us a reality!
Don't give up on your God given dreams. While it is difficult to wait on God and His timing for those things we desire most, God's will and timing are always best! God is working things out in your life to make the dreams He has given you a reality! God's plans are worth waiting for no matter how long it takes! Hannah ended up having 5 children and a firstborn son who turned out to be the greatest Judge Israel ever had! Wait on the Lord, don't lose hope and see what He does with the dreams he has given you! It may be that God's plans for you are so big that it will take a little extra time for them to be realized in your life!
